How Fast Is 300 Km An Hour – BMW M3 V10 uses full speedometer on Autobahn, reaches 300 KM/H Yes, M3 with V10. Oh, and it has a dual-clutch auto.
The BMW M3 has had a variety of engines under its hood since its performance model debut in the late 1980s. It first came out with a small four-cylinder engine before graduating to an inline-six and eventually a burly V8. With downsizing in full swing, the M3 will never opt for an eight-cylinder engine, as the current inline-six may be hybrids before succumbing to the onslaught of EVs ahead.

Directly bucking the less-is-more trend, this E46 coupe sold in the 2000s has undergone an impressive engine transplant courtesy of Dutch shop Autoservice Procar. Gone is the OEM inline-six, replaced by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 derived from the mighty M5 E60. It produces a healthy 507 horsepower and 520 Newton-meters (384 lb-ft) of torque, a huge improvement over the M3 of this period.

But wait, there’s more. Apart from jamming the big engine, BMW Autoservice specialist Procar also removed the original gearbox. Instead of the OEM six-speed manual or the dreaded SMG automatic manual transmission, the M3 E46 shown here has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic of unknown origin, but possibly carried over from the car’s successor, the M3 E92.
The heavily modified sports coupe reached speeds of up to 186 mph (300 km/h) during the impressive acceleration tests on an unrestricted section of the highway. Sebastian Vettel may say the speed limits on Germany’s glorious autobahn are “nothing”, but we’re going to miss a video like this of a special car at full speed.
This is especially true when the featured vehicle has a screaming V10, its sweet tune singing above 8,000rpm and the driver using literally the car’s entire speedometer. The package seems perfect for a lightweight two-seater supercar, which unfortunately never materialized, and BMW. It’s too late to wait for such a dominating world record sports car. A pre-production Chiron derivative was the first hyper sports car to break the 300 mph (482.80 km/h) barrier. At the same time, a new TÜV certified speed record was set at 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h).
“It has once again shown what it is capable of. With this new record in the Chiron, we are once again entering uncharted territory. No manufacturer in the series has achieved this speed,” says President Stefan Winkelmann. By being the first manufacturer. We have Now achieved it – an incredible pride for us, for the whole team and for me.” With this new world record, we will also leave the race to produce the fastest series production cars. “The cars most rapids of the world we produce. “We have proven that several times. We will focus on other areas in the future,” says Winkelmann.

Le Mans winner and test driver Andy Wallace achieved an exact top speed of 490.484 km/h (304.773 mph) on 2 August 2019 at the Ehra-Lessien test track in Lower Saxony. “Unbelievable speed. It’s unimaginable that a car can do that. But the Chiron was well prepared and I felt very confident, even in these high speed ranges,” says Andy Wallace. It worked up to top speed in 50km increments and the Chiron was optimally balanced in terms of lift and downforce. “Even at the first attempt I felt it was going to be a success. The Chiron drove perfectly and the track and weather conditions were ideal. The whole team was fantastic. A job well done,” says a delighted Vallas. to victory
After a lap to condition the Chiron, Andy Wallace accelerated to 200 km/h on the North Bend and reached a straight line speed of 8.8 km/h. At a precisely defined braking point, he slowed the Chiron down to 200 km/h to drive around the right bend. He had a distance of two kilometers for it. “I went full throttle for about 70 seconds from the start. It was important for me to exit the corner at 200 km/h to reach top speed on the straight. It required maximum concentration,” says the new reporter .He traveled 136 meters in one second.
It wasn’t the first time Andy Wallace set a speed record: in 1998, Britain’s McLaren set a similar record at the same track at 391 km/h (243 mph).
For the world record, a team of engineers from various disciplines developed a pre-production vehicle of a Chiron derivative under the direction of head of development Stefan Elrot. In addition to aerodynamic improvements, the experts gave great importance to safety. Andy Wallace was restrained by a six-point harness and protected by an additional safety cage.

The team was supported by Italian racing specialist Dallara and tire manufacturer Michelin. “Their expertise fed directly into the project. The report would not have been possible without our partners,” says Wilman. Michelin has been our tire partner for many years and has ensured the required grip and stability. The Michelin high-speed tires already used on the Chiron were beefed up, especially the belts to handle 5300 G, although they remained street legal. After all, tires spin up to 4,100 times in a minute. The tires underwent extensive testing on the test bench in the USA at speeds of up to 511 km/h. Strict quality control even after production: each tire is X-rayed to optimize it down to the smallest detail. The world record car was fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires just before the record run.
On the test bench, engineers also tested engine performance and the interaction between the engine, gearbox and chassis during various manoeuvres. Even the smallest changes have a big impact in this speed range. “After all the calculations and tests, they assured us that the record is in our hands. We have controlled the technology at an early stage. But a world record attempt on an open track may have some surprises in store. We were lucky today, everything went well.
The Ehra-Lessien road in Lower Saxony is 50 meters above sea level. However, unlike high-altitude roads like Nevada, this one has some drawbacks. Due to the higher density of the air, the vehicle has to exert more power and, at high speeds of more than 400 km/h, it runs like a wall. “Air pressure, air density and temperature are very important for high-speed driving and can make a difference of 25 km/h depending on the altitude,” says Stefan Elrott. However, the team chose the test track at Ehra-Lessien.
“A world record attempt at such extreme speeds of over 400 km/h always involves some risk. Everything has to be right: the car, the weather and the track. Ehra-Lessien offers the best possible protection, so we chose this track,” says Stefan Elrot. It is the only place in the world where safety standards for high-speed testing are so high. The 21 km long three-lane highway is equipped with crash barriers and there are rescue services at the north and south ends. Before the road test, the transport route is cleaned with special mats to remove stones and pebbles. “Driver safety is our priority. We did everything up front to minimize the risk,” says Elrott.
Bugatti Breaks The 300 Mph Barrier
The record was recorded in a sealed GPS box and the certificate was issued by SGS-TÜV Saar. So in August 2019, 304.773 mph, the first manufacturer to produce a car that goes over 300 mph.
It is not the first world record on this track with Chiron. In 2017, former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya went from 0 to 400 km/h on this test track in 41.96 seconds. With the Veyron 16.4, it set speed records for production vehicles in 2005 and 2010, and in 2013 the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse set the fastest roadster record.
“He is now the first person to break the 300mph mark. An incredible achievement that shows what men and women are capable of. But this was our last chance. He was the first to break 300mph; his name will forever go down in the history books,” says Stephan Winkelmann.
Contrary to popular belief, hyper sports cars are not defined solely by their class-leading performance. “This world record is shown once again
