How Many Inches Is 90mm – Leica 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M (46mm filter, 13.940oz/395.15g). enlarge. I got it from a link on eBay; Adorama and Amazon also sell them. Receiving these links will help me to keep expanding this site, thank you!
This is the only Leica telephoto lens you’ll ever need. This 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M is optically perfect, but larger and heavier than the previous 90mm f/2.8 Tele Elmarit-M (1974-1990).

Today’s LEICAMAN claims the best, the 90mm f/2 APO ASPH (55mm filter, 16.675 oz/472.77 g), but it’s larger and heavier than the 90mm f/2.8. The optics on this f/2.8 are great, but the f/2 APO ASPH isn’t too heavy for an extra aperture, and price is never an issue for LEICAMAN.

This Leica 90mm f/2.8 sold for up to $2,000 when new in 2008 and before the introduction of the LEICA M9 it was available for less in 2009, on eBay for just $650. In 2010, the computer caught up with and bought the LEICA M9, doubling the used price on eBay in late 2010 to $1,100.
This Leica 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M is unsurpassed for 35mm photography in terms of image quality as well as excellent handling and ergonomics.
Other lenses are optically good, such as the inexpensive Leica 90/2.5 Summarit-M, the exotic Leica 90mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH, and the Zeiss-for-Contax 90mm f/2.8 Sonnar. A 90mm f/2.8 lens is not difficult to model.
The only way to get sharper images than that 90mm lens is to go up to larger formats like the Pentax 645N and Pentax 150mm lenses. It offers great images and costs a fraction of a Leica, but it’s a huge camera system in comparison.

Check out my Leica 90mm f/2.8 lens review of the 90mm f/2.8 and f/2.5 lenses I’ve made over the past fifty years. Fully compatible with any Leica M system you use.
Assuming you have a standard 106 DPI screen, that’s the actual size, for a total of 3.263 inches (82.89 mm).
The M stands for the timeless Leica rangefinder cameras of the M series as well as for Voigtländer Bessas, Zeiss Ikons and Minolta CLEs.
To calculate the actual focal length of your lens, use the two digits to the right of “m” on the focal length scale in millimeters and tenths.

For example, the lens shown here has the serial number 05 and an actual focal length of 90.5 mm.
The Germans call it the E46 and 46E, but it’s the same standard 46mm (0.75mm pitch) filter found everywhere.
The clever thing about the Leica cap is the wide rim, so you can’t extend the hood without remembering to remove the cap first.
The Leica 90mm f/2.8 has always been such a popular lens that Leica sells it in at least three colors.

November 2010, USA: Sold on eBay for $1,100 in excellent condition. Other colors sell for around $1,400, but some people ask for more but don’t expect to get that price.
May 2009, USA: Sold on eBay for about $650 in excellent condition; Dealers like Adorama typically charge $1,200.
In 2008 it sold new for $2,000, and in late 2008 Leica was offering a $300 discount.
The biggest limitation on your sharpness is simply the fact that most Leica and other rangefinder cameras come with incompletely calibrated rangefinders. Therefore, you will need to have your lens professionally adjusted by your dealer (no, not you or a friend) to achieve optimal focusing.

This Leitz 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit has no coma. In coma, points of light in corners grow into strangely shaped spheres.
This is a crop of a 4.2 x 2.8 mm (0.17 x 0.11 inch) image section. If the entire image were displayed at this magnification, it would print out 32″ x 48″!
As with most modern cameras, this is not important when using a TTL light meter, but is important when using an external light meter.

The focus is the same as other 90mm lenses. Close focus is achieved by rotating the focus ring 160°.
The rectangular focus and aperture rings are perfectly grippable. The grip is excellent and never feels gummy or lumpy.
According to Leica data (page 69), the drop is 0.95 stops at f/2.8, 1/3 stop at f/4 and 1/6 stop at f/5.6.
The fall is very gradual and therefore invisible, which arguably benefits the composition. At f/4 it’s not as abrupt as the 90mm f/4 Elmar-C.

The downside of this 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M compared to older versions like the 90mm f/2.8 Tele Elmarit-M is that it can block the viewfinder a bit, especially at close range and with the aperture widened.
Canopy retracted and out of focus more than 10 feet (3 m), canopy slightly lowered and closer than 10 feet.
Covers pulled more than 4 ft (1.2 m) Covers slightly pulled closer than 4 ft. Note: Zeiss only has the 85mm frame, not the 90mm frame. I’m looking at the 85mm frame line.
There is no gap when pulling the hood. With the canopy deployed, a slight jam occurred closer than 1.2 m (5 ft). Be careful; Your CLE may provide accurate, repeatable, or accurate enough focus with any 90mm f/2.8 lens for your taste.

Most rangefinder cameras I see, whether Leica, Zeiss, Mamiya, Nikon, Canon or Minolta, require a professional to adjust the rangefinder for perfect alignment.
If you expect perfect focus at f/2.8, all the bodies and samples of this lens I’ve tested give mixed results.
You should test your samples yourself and make sure your camera is well matched to your service technician. It was fine this week but might carry over into next week.
Most people aren’t picky like me, most people stop shooting, so most people never notice.

The Leica 90mm f/2.8 ELMARIT-M is designed just like any other true Leica M lens, which is great. (The cheap Leica 90mm f/2.5 Summarit-M lens is mechanically bad; I wouldn’t consider this lens a real Leica lens because it’s not the best. If it’s not the best, it’s not Leica.)
This Elmarit-M lens is designed to keep you out at every stage of our lives. My 55 year old Leica lens still works like new and my current Leica 90mm lens will last long after I die.
This Leica 90mm f/2.8 lens is sharp, sharp, sharp. Even with the toughest of tests, I can’t quite get the sharpness right, and for testing purposes it makes a great lens look awful.
If you’re not getting sharp results, it’s either because you’re not a good photographer or your rangefinder isn’t set correctly. I can’t create a soft image with this 90mm lens.

The brightness cannot be checked with a color print. You should take a black and white or Fuji Velvia 50 photo and view it under high magnification (equivalent to at least a 30 x 40 inch photo). I’m shooting with Velvia 50 and looking at 40x magnification. Leukaphiles are always pleased with what you thought they would see on a 7×7 inch print. When I talk about clarity, I’m looking at prints that are 120 cm wide.
Directly comparable to the world’s leading 90mm f/2 APO APSH. The reason you pay more for the APO ASPH is because it offers an extra aperture and is still just as sharp even at f/2. I think I’ll push the issue and somehow see a slight advantage for the APO ASPH only at f/2.8; But no matter: If you need higher quality, you need a larger film format.
How do I check focus? Take multiple shots at f/2.8 at different distances and make sure the resulting images focus squarely on your intended subject.
This lens is very easy to use. As with all long-lens rangefinder cameras, the biggest potential problem is making sure you have enough focus for the lens to focus properly.
Cottle Septum Speculum 6
As mentioned above, it’s a good idea to do a little f/2.8 photography first to make sure your lens is a good match for your camera’s rangefinder.
Shoot at f/2.8 and make sure the optimal focus is exactly where you want it, not just a few inches in front or behind.
Even if you get perfect results with a 50mm lens, your camera is still so weak that it loses the sharpness you would have with a 90mm lens.
To make matters worse, different cameras with different samples and lens versions give different results. Trying to make all your lenses and cameras work perfectly will drive you insane. I test them all on my camera
