What Is 16 Days From Today – Today marks the beginning of 16 days of action against gender-based violence called “UNIT!” Remember the sub-topic! Action to end violence against women and girls. As an organization that promotes human rights and justice for disadvantaged communities in Zimbabwe, Legal Resources Foundation condemns all forms of violence against women and girls. Eliminating violence against women and girls is not an event, but an everyday effort
Violence against women and girls is one of the most serious violations of human rights against humanity. In Zimbabwe, 40% of women aged 15-49 have experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner, while less than 40% have sought help. The long-term effects of violence affect the achievements of achieving sustainable development and gender equality. Gender-based violence not only affects individuals, but also threatens family relationships, social progress and economic growth.
What Is 16 Days From Today
Adolescent girls are increasingly experiencing sexual violence in places that should be protected. Public and private spaces have become areas for physical, psychological, verbal, and sexual violence that normalize the perpetrators of violence against women and girls. do Gender survivors often face victimization and secondary guilt for participating in their abuse.
Today December 16 Cut Out Stock Images & Pictures
The recent murders of the nine-year-old pregnant girls Tsholoshu and Bindura and their fifteen-year-old “wives” are testimony to the violence against women and girls in Zimbabwe. Violence against women and girls is another global epidemic that requires the immediate attention of all sectors of society, including the family structure.
While the government of Zimbabwe has made laudable efforts to eradicate child sexual exploitation by raising the legal age of marriage to eighteen, which has been normalized as “child marriage”, more needs to be done to enforce the law and deal with the perpetrators. It will be done. Enacting stricter criminal marriage laws would help protect girls and give them the right to choose when they can marry without being forced.
The Legal Resource Foundation applauds the progress made in raising the age of consent from sixteen to eighteen to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse. Therefore, we claim that the Penal Code must be consistent with Article 81, Paragraph 1 of the Constitution, which defines a child as any boy or girl who is under eighteen years of age and has the right to protection.
Our urgent request during the 16 days of action against gender-based violence is for the government of Zimbabwe to ensure that the marriage law is implemented so that girls can fully enjoy their rights. We urge the government to introduce mandatory minimum sentences as a punitive measure for crimes such as rape.
Social Media Campaign: Global 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender Based Violence
This step helps to eliminate violence. We urge the government to provide adequate resources to the justice and health sectors so that survivors receive quality and comprehensive services without facing secondary victimization.
We call on the Access to Justice Department to waive court user service fees for survivors of gender-based violence so that they can access justice without any barriers. We call on governments and non-governmental actors to work together to strengthen referral pathways, including creating more safe havens, providing free legal representation, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, sexual reproductive health services, and more. We urge the general public to refrain from resorting to violence and blaming the victim.
We all have a role to play in ending violence and helping create a world where women and girls are safe You are here: Home 1 / News 2 / Domestic Violence 3 / 16 Days of Action 4 / 16 Actions Against Domestic Violence
