What Is 38 Degrees Celsius

What Is 38 Degrees Celsius – The heat wave — the equivalent of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit — was observed on June 20, 2020, in Verkhoyansk, Russia.

The United Nations on Tuesday officially measured 38 degrees Celsius in Siberia last year as a new record for the Arctic, sounding “alarm bells” about climate change.

The heat — the equivalent of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit — was observed in the Russian city of Verkhoyansk on June 20, 2020, the highest temperature ever recorded above the Arctic Circle, the International Meteorological Organization said.

Apocalyptic! The Arctic Is On Fire At Record 38 Degrees Celsius; Siberian Heat Wave Alarms Scientists

It is the first time WMO has added record temperatures in the Arctic to its archive of severe weather reports, and it comes amid an unprecedented wave of record temperatures worldwide, the UN agency said.

“This new Arctic record is one of a number of observations reported to the WMO Archive of Weather and Climate Extremes that sound alarm bells about our changing climate,” its director, Petri Thalas, said in a statement.

Vorkhoyansk is located approximately 115 km (70 miles) north of the Arctic Circle and the temperature has been measured there since 1885.

The temperature, which the agency noted was “more suitable for the Mediterranean than the Arctic”, was measured at the meteorological station during an exceptionally long period of Siberian warmth.

Average temperatures in Arctic Siberia were 10C above normal for much of last summer, adding to the fires and massive loss of sea ice.

Heat waves also played a significant role in 2020, which was named one of the three hottest years on record worldwide.

The WMO is still looking to witness the 54.4C recorded in both 2020 and 2021 at the world’s hottest place, Death Valley in California.

And its experts are also working to verify a new European record temperature of 48.8C reported on the Italian island of Sicily last summer.

The archive tracks the world’s highest and lowest temperatures, rainfall, heaviest cloud cover, longest dry spell, maximum wind storm, longest lightning strike and weather-related deaths.

Although all parts of the planet are warming, some regions are warming faster than others — and the Arctic’s rate of change is more than double the global average.

“This study indicates a warming trend for a climatically important region of the world,” said Randall Cervini, a meteorologist at the agency.

The creation of the new category means that both polar regions are now represented, after the WMO added a temperature limit for the Antarctic region in 2007.

Because this was a new climate category on record, the experts did not provide a previous temperature record for the region, but said they had established that no temperature of 38C or more had been recorded there before.

The coldest temperature ever recorded above the Arctic Circle was -69.6C (-93.9F), and was recorded in Greenland on December 22, 1991, the WMO said.
